Well, even a master gets it wrong sometimes, and the Duke got it wrong quite a lot in this case. It's such a strangely naive view of the search for communists, lacking progression, and not at all helped by the voiceover narration, possibly used only because recording sound on location didn't go well. A weak story leads to a weak impression.
