Henryk Bielecki is a type of strong man, seeking fame and wealth at all costs. He goes so far as to murder a writer, which allows him to publish books written by the murdered man under his own name and gain publicity. Meeting the beautiful, extremely subtle Nina Ligęza, wife of a landowner, causes a breakthrough in his life. Under her influence, he is reborn morally and realises the wickedness of his conduct and the misery of his past life. She helps him become a truly a strong man, possessed of strength of character. Not wanting to cause more harm to others and unable to find a place for himself in the world, he commits suicide. The film is relatively well-made and edited, with appropriate suspense and an interesting set design. (3Kino Fest)

Ein netter polnischer Stummfilm aus der Familie so spektakulärer Filme wie Orlacs Hände, der mir aber immer noch besser gefällt. Existenzielle Fragen über Sein und Nichtsein und der Hunger nach Ruhm sind gute Zutaten für die 1920er Jahre, aber die Begeisterung für den neuen Soundtrack kann ich nicht teilen. Dieser ist so alternativ, dass er nur mit der Erotikon-Begleitung von Project 100 mithalten kann.
