Shanti (Waheeda Rehman) and Raj (Sanjeev Kumar) are deeply in love, but when Raj's mother pressures him to marry his wealthy boss's daughter and become a partner in his firm, he agrees--even after Shanti tells him she's pregnant with his child. Shanti leaves town, gives birth to a boy named Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan), and raises him to be a strong, proud young man. When she dies, Vijay vows that he will confront his father and avenge his mother's ill-treatment, and he sets out to interrupt Raj's wealthy and complacent life. (Verleiher-Text)
