Sergeant Gene Autry, formerly a rancher, pretends to quit the Army to persuade stubborn farmers to sell their land for a military proving ground. Gene soon discovers that unscrupulous mine owners are keeping the ranchers stirred up in hopes that the government will grow weary of the dealings and pay a higher price for their land. Exactly the kind of film where you think that shooting westerns and screening them was just plain fun back in the day. It's a film that's sometimes funny, has great action scenes with lots of people, and you can see that Gene Autry was already a beloved character and actor. A nicely crafted alter ego with the same name as his performer. ()
