Englisch A strong dramatic substance in the typical Chekhov style, and an extremely bitter comedy about human pettiness, weakness, and hypocrisy. The uneducated Foma, masterfully portrayed by Jiří Tomek, gradually takes control of the society living on a rural farm and plays unbelievably with the fates of its inhabitants. Alongside Jiří Tomek, Ivo Kubečka's performance as the farm owner - an overly indecisive weakling - is excellent. A very decent production by the Brno studio, directed by Vladimír Kelbl. The play is framed by a quote from one of the characters: "Things must get going in order for everything to stay the same." Overall impression: 85%. ()
