Truvy herrscht über ihren kleinstädtischen Schönheitssalon wie eine italienische Mamma über ihre Großfamilie. Lautstark, manchmal vulgär, aber immer souverän. Kein Wunder, daß die Damen der örtlichen Gesellschaft sich bei ihr die Klinke in die Hand geben. Die reiche und exzentrische Witwe Ouiser, die stets um ihre kranke Tochter besorgte Annette oder Clairee, das größte Schandmaul des Ortes. Doch Peeling, Maniküre und Problemhaut spielen bei "Truvy's" nur mehr eine Nebenrolle. (Verleiher-Text)

Steel Magnolias is a film that brings together a stellar cast of actresses who know how to play their roles. It gives us the opportunity to follow the joys and sorrows of the lives of several female characters who perhaps couldn't be more different, yet are united by friendship and family. The one who impressed me the most was Shirley MacLaine, who was convincingly obnoxious. All in all, a very well made and acted film about the lives of quite ordinary people with whom many of us could identify.
