Daurija

On the eve of World War I, a small village in the Baikal region recovering from the October Revolution braces itself for further upheaval. Roman, a young Cossack, is a carefree daredevil whose only concern in life is whether pretty Dashutka will marry him or his rival, a merchant's son. Between romancing and fistfights, however, he comes to realize that the world around him is a much bigger place than he had imagined, and soon he must choose a side on which to fight. (Verleiher-Text)
