Touda only dreams of one thing: being a Sheikha, a traditional Moroccan performer. She belts out songs about resistance, love and emancipation, passed down from generation to generation. Touda is a bold, principled and above all very talented singer who longs for a better life for herself and her son. In a small town, she is confronted with meanness, rude behaviour, harassment and humiliation. She dreams of earning admiration and respect in a big city like Casablanca with her truly amazing voice, which makes the film's finale all the more impressive... because people are the same everywhere.
