The Victims who died were the lucky ones. Something horrible is happening at the old house on Mill Road. A series of ghastly accidents has occurred near the site where a witch was drowned centuries earlier. Vor 200 Jahren wurde an einem Ort eine Hexe hingerichtet. Heute steht dort ein Haus, in das eine amerikanische Familie einzieht. Die rachsüchtige Hexe macht sich jedoch bald bemerkbar und verschont niemanden, geschweige denn Kinder. Fast ein Klassiker aus den frühen 80ern, den ich mir wieder ansehen konnte. Die Hexe ist ein atmosphärischer Horrorfilm ohne Happy End, in dem die Musik hervorsticht und an italienische Giallo-Filme erinnert, sowie einige brutale Todesfälle, wie zum Beispiel das Einklemmen am offenen Fenster oder das dramatische Ende des Priesters mit einem Schleifstein. Obwohl wir die Hexe nur als Gestalt mit Umhang und hässlichen Krallen sehen, störte es mich nicht besonders. Dafür war der Krimi-Anteil irgendwie ein bisschen unnötig.

Superstition is a Canadian production that contains elements of a slasher movie, satanic horror, mystery, and a ghost story. And together, it works quite well. Occasionally, there are some blind spots, and it is very indebted to the genre and other movies it copies a bit from. However, overall, it is a very interesting mix that makes sense and is both very entertaining and enthralling.
