The children of Somsabátony decide to build the country's first children's railway as they very much would like to make their birth-place famous. The blacksmith is already straightening the rails, and Igali, the world-famous painter paints a large picture portraying the construction works. Yet as a result of the intrigues of the wife of Captain Koós the majority of the adult population opposes the project and even the children turn against each other. Fülöp Dini, Madak and Szeder Pista are the first to leave the site, and Marci runs desperately after them. Suddenly a landmine from the war explodes. The blinded Marci learns in the hospital bed that Szeder Pista is dead, and the settlement became known for the accident.
