Ábel emigrates to America, in order to learn more about the world. He arrives to New York and finds accommodation and home with the relatives of Priest Kelemen. He gets acquainted with Miklós Toldi, a Hungarian man from Nagyszalonta, then he starts working in a smelter with the help of Uncle Gáspárs'. However, he gets bored by shaping doorknobs all the time and he rather liked to learn driving. Or, even better, joins a bank as a clerk, yet he would be fed up with his boss quickly. At Toldi's proposal he goes to Virginia, in order to become a real banker. Most importantly, he is puzzled by the question "why do we live on this world?" and the answer to it. He keeps on asking everybody about it and finally a black boy gives the correct answer, saying: we live on this world in order to be at home somewhere in it. After this Ábel returns to Hungary. Toldi accompanies him for, he says, if a Székely (Transsylvanian Hungarian) decides so, he must have a reason. (Verleiher-Text)
