In the story, the golden watch is a metaphor: life of an individual for whom honesty is of real value. Uncle Bogdán is the one to have the golden watch, which is all the "fortune" he has, apart from Juci, his only daughter, who supports him. Bogdán has his watch stolen, some take advantage of his honesty. Having lost his golden watch, he almost loses his daughter, who also is the victim of a rip-off and is on the verge of becoming a corrupt person. At the end Bogdán, however, gets back his watch on the day before his death, which means that he also regains his faith in people, while Juci finds an honest companion, a workman, who is determined to become a successful small entrepreneur.
