The film is a passion play which takes place in the hamlet world of the 1920s: it depicts the stations of helplessness in the life of an eight- year-old girl on the hamlets. She is taken by the poor Dudás' for the orphanage placement charge. When herding cows, Csöre is raped by Kadaros, while Kedvesanyám keeps on beating and scowling her. The little girl goes into hiding and gets into the orphanage again. Later on she lives on the property of the still more cruel Szennyes' in the stable with the warm-hearted old Vénisten, who will be poisoned by Zsabamári. Her fate is more and more intolerable. The little child, longing for love, lights a stalk of straw on Christmas Eve calling her mother. The hamlet, the scene of her torture catches fire and it burns with its dwellers inside, while the snow is falling. (Verleiher-Text)
