Captured during a political revolution and pandemic in Hong Kong, this hybrid film combines real events, remembered personal narratives, and staged dances to showcase a vibrant yet oft-forgotten community of Filipina women (200,000 in HK, millions globally), and offer an unseen point of view on events that dominated global headlines. Described as Chris Marker’s La Jetée meets La La Land, this film and its use of stills vs. motion represent a bold new way of filmmaking, one which invites the viewer to viscerally experience the characters’ lives of entrapment by their circumstances, and their release towards freedom when they dance.
