The steel-plant in Siberia is surrounded by endless fields covered by snow, and times stands still at its borders. Local inhabitants make a living by means of subsistence economy, i.e. robbery and theft. The factory workers live in this narrow, wild and life-dangerous world according to their own working and living morals. The management of the factory represent another world, and encounters between the two are rare. The monotony is enlivened by fights between factory-workers and miners. Nyikoláj, the latest champion of the factory is tired of these battles and asks Ignat to represent the factory against the fearful Mongolian miner, Bekbulátka. The heroic fight inspires large bets, and the audience eventually celebrates the new winner, Ignat. (Verleiher-Text)
