Bei einem Überfall auf die britische Botschaft in Stockholm befindet sich der Botschafter nun als Geisel in der Hand von Terroristen. Sie fordern die Freilassung von sechs gefangenen Mitstreitern und freies Geleit. Ihre Flucht mit einem gekaperten Flugzeug steht unter keinem guten Stern. Der Pilot beweist stählerne Nerven und landet die Maschine so unsanft, dass vor dem Weiterflug größere Reparaturen nötig werden. Colonel Nils Tahlvik, Chef des schwedischen Sicherheitsdienstes, gewinnt kostbare Zeit. Er versucht die Hintergründe des Komplotts aufzudecken - und stößt auf Erstaunliches. Fest entschlossen, nicht noch weitere Opfer des Geiseldrama heraufzubeschwören, geht er selbst an Bord. (Verleiher-Text)
