Eva struggles with human connection. Now that her younger sister Tess is moving out, and long estranged from her neglectful parents, the fragile Eva is finally truly alone. Already reeling, she’s instinctively revulsed by a social media post announcing the memorial celebration for a long-passed childhood friend. She emotionally recalls her sensitive 13-year-old self in the wake of his death, embracing her role as the third musketeer to a pair of slightly older boys, and how the adolescent riddle game the trio played against the local girls took a deeply unsound turn. Hartes Drama über das Aufwachsen auf dem belgischen Land. Die traumatisierte Gegenwart mischt sich mit Erinnerungen an die Kindheit, aus der langsam alle Unschuld verschwindet, und sobald diese entscheidenden Momente kommen, wird es wirklich bedrückend anzusehen... im letzten Teil zerstörerisch. Ich könnte mir ein etwas erträglicheres Ende vorstellen, als das, was wir hier bekommen, aber ich respektiere die kreative Entscheidung.

A sober drama set in rural Belgium about children coming of age and teenage trauma. There are two storylines, with surprisingly the most being the flashback from childhood, which also takes more time. All in all it's more of a three star affair for me, where the final impression is improved by the ending in the barn, which won't be very pleasant for the girls, but isn't as explicit and brutal as other users mention. Anyway, a film about how children's games can result in tragedy. The acting was good, shot okay for a debut, didn't get boring, so I'll throw in a weaker four. 70%
