Chris, Anita and Mahade are ex-child combatants from the civil wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone in the 1990s. This film is about the psycho-physical adjustments they must make to come to terms with their experiences and the impossibility of forgetting. Empowered by their past and present, they demand a just society. Like many others, they were abducted and raped, forcibly enlisted, or used as protection. They were made into fighters, sex slaves and labourers by all sides in the conflicts during the decade-long civil wars. Chris was taken as a wife by a rebel commander, impregnated and forced to brutalise others. As a soldier she once cut a foetus out of a living pregnant woman, a practice called “Op. Stampin’ Stomach”. This is something one can never forget and Chris is plagued by nightmares like many of the others who survived. These women lost their childhoods and education. Many have not been able to reintegrate into society. In Woman See Lot of Things they can speak freely. Through unique sound work, hand-drawn animation, and live-action we are drawn nearer to their dark past and learn how killing became natural to them. (DOK.fest München)
