In 1960s San Francisco, Celina Guerrera is a bright and talented high school student with a promising future. But an unplanned pregnancy dramatically alters her chartered course. After witnessing her best friend die from a botched abortion, she decides to keep her baby. Despite unsupportive parents and a turbulent household fraught with domestic violence, Celina is determined to rise out of poverty and build a better future for her newborn son. She works multiple jobs and shrewdly saves in the pursuit of homeownership while facing prevalent racism and sexism in her workplace and from lending institutions denying loans to single women. This provocative film is inspired by real women and the Janis Joplin song of the same title. (Home Box Office)
